31 Days of praying for your husband

Last year my friend posted this on her blog, and I made a "note" of it so I could "do" it. Well, here is my confession. I never did. I forgot I had noted it. Although I do pray for my husband, I love the way this leads you and gives my prayer a break up from the everyday requests (which sadly have become the same daily) and it also gives my prayer time better purpose.

I thought I would re-share with you all so you could benefit from it also.

31 Days of Praying for Your Husband

31 Days of Praying for Your Husband
by Nancy Leigh DeMoss

“She does him good . . .” (Proverbs 31:12a)

Bless your husband by praying for him! The Apostle Paul instructed all Christians to pray for one another (Ephesians 6:18). This includes wives’ responsibility and privilege to pray for their husbands. Earnest prayer for your husband is good for him, for you and the spiritual health of your home (Proverbs 31:11-12).

Satan desires to destroy your husband, especially his character and his leadership in your relationship. Trust God through prayer as you daily surrender your husband and marriage to the Lord’s wise, loving care.

Day 1
Pray that your husband will grow spiritually and consider his accountability before the Lord. Pray that he will guard his heart by developing spiritual disciplines—Bible reading and study, prayer, meditation, scripture memorization, etc. (2 Peter 3:18; Prov. 4:23)

Day 2
Pray that your husband’s relationship with God and His Word will bear fruit in his life. Pray that he will be a man of wisdom and understanding, fearing the Lord. (Prov. 3:7, 9:10; Ps. 112:1)

Day 3
Pray that your husband will be humble and quick to agree with God about his sin. Pray that his heart will be tender toward the voice of the Lord. (Ps. 51:2-4; Micah 6:8)

Day 4
Pray that your husband will grow in leadership skills in your relationship—protecting and providing for you. Pray that he will lead you wisely and love you sacrificially, so that God will be glorified in your marriage. (Eph. 5:25-29; Col. 3:19)

Day 5
Pray that your husband will be faithful to his wedding vows. Pray that he will have a desire to cultivate your relationship as a sign of his loyalty and commitment to you, and as a picture of Christ’s love for the Church. (Prov. 20:6; Gen. 2:24)

Day 6
Pray that your husband will love righteousness and hate wickedness, especially the evils of the culture. Pray that he will recognize and avoid wickedness in his own life, and if necessary, take a clear, strong stand against evil. (Prov. 27:12; John 17:15; 1 Cor. 10:12-13)

Day 7
Pray that your husband will safeguard his heart against inappropriate relationships with the opposite sex. Pray that his heart will be pure and undivided in his commitment to you. (Prov. 6:23-24, 26; Rom. 13:14)

Day 8
Pray that your husband will work hard to provide for your family, to the best of his ability. Pray that the character qualities necessary for a successful career and ministry will be a growing part of his character—persistence, decisiveness, strength, an analytical mind, organizational skills, positive relationships with people, determination, etc. (Rom. 12:11; 1 Cor. 15:58)

Day 9
Pray that your husband handle finances wisely, will have discernment concerning budgeting and investments, and will be a good steward of his money in regard to giving to the Lord’s work. Pray that money will not become a source of discord in your family. (Prov. 23:4-5; Rom. 12:13; Heb. 13:5)

Day 10
Pray that your husband will cultivate strong integrity, and not compromise his convictions. Pray that his testimony will be genuine, that he will be honest in his business dealings, and will never do anything that he needs to hide from others. (Prov. 20:7; 1 Tim. 1:5, 3:7; Eph. 6:10-12)

Day 11
Pray that your husband will have a humble, teachable spirit and a servant’s heart before the Lord. Pray that he will listen to God and desire to do His will. (Prov. 15:33; Eph. 6:6)

Day 12
Pray that your husband will yield his sexual drive to the Lord and practice self control. Pray that your sexual intimacy together will be fresh, positive, and a reflection of selfless love. (Prov. 5:15, 18; 1 Cor. 7:3; Song of Solomon 7:10)

Day 13
Pray that your husband use practical skills to build your family and make wise decisions for your welfare. Pray that he will serve unselfishly. (Gal. 5:13; Phil. 2:3-4)

Day 14
Pray that your husband will speak words that build you and your family, and reflect a heart of love. Pray that he will not use filthy language. (Prov. 18:21; Eph. 4:29)

Day 15
Pray that your husband will choose his friends wisely. Pray that God will bring him men who will encourage his accountability before God, and will not lead him into sin. (Prov. 13:20; Prov. 27:17)

Day 16
Pray that your husband will choose healthy, God-honoring activities. Pray that he will not live in bondage to any questionable habits or hobbies, but that he will experience freedom in holiness as he yields to the Spirit’s control. (1 Cor. 6:12, 10:31; 2 Tim. 2:4)

Day 17
Pray that your husband will enjoy his manliness as he patterns his life after Christ and strong men in the faith. Pray for his physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual strength. (Eph. 3:16; 1 Peter 2:21; 1 Cor. 10:11)

Day 18
Pray that your husband will have an eternal perspective—living in light of eternity. Pray that he will reject materialism and temporal values and put God first in his life. (Matt. 6:33; Deut. 6:5; Eph. 5:16; Ps. 90:12)

Day 19
Pray that your husband will be patient and a man of peace. Pray that he will not give in to anger, but will allow the Holy Spirit to control his responses. (Rom. 14:19; Ps. 34:14)

Day 20
Pray that your husband will yield his mind and thoughts to the Lord. Pray that he will not entertain immoral or impure thoughts, and that he will resist the temptation to indulge in pornography. (Prov. 27:12; 2 Cor. 10:5)

Day 21
Pray that your husband will learn how to relax in the Lord and, in his greatest times of stress, find joy and peace in his relationship with God. Pray that he will submit his schedule to the Lord. (Neh. 8:10; Prov. 17:22; Ps. 16:11)

Day 22
Pray that your husband will practice forgiveness in your relationship and with others. Pray that he will recognize any roots of bitterness, and yield any resentment and unforgiving attitudes to the Lord. (Eph. 4:32; Heb. 12:15)

Day 23
Pray that your husband will be a good father—disciplining his children wisely and loving them unconditionally. If he is not a father, pray that he will find a young man to mentor in the things of the Lord. (Eph. 6:4; Col. 3:21; 2 Tim. 2:1-2)

Day 24
Pray that your husband will have a balanced life—that he will balance work and play. Pray that he will fear God, but also gain favor with people he knows at work and church. (Luke 2:52; Prov. 13:15)

Day 25
Pray that your husband will be courageous in his stand against evil and injustice, and that he will stand for the truth. Pray that he will protect you and your family from Satan’s attacks. (Ps. 31:24; Eph. 6:13; Ps. 27:14)

Day 26
Pray that your husband will discover and live his God-given purpose. Pray that he will offer all his dreams to the Lord, and pursue only those goals that will bring God glory and count for eternity. (Jer. 29:11; 1 Cor. 10:31)

Day 27
Pray that your husband will understand the importance of taking care of his body—the temple of the Holy Spirit—for the glory of God. Pray that he will practice self-control by making wise food choices, and get sufficient exercise to stay healthy. (Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Cor. 6:19-20, 9:27)

Day 28
Pray that your husband will be a man of prayer. Pray that he will seek and pursue God in purposeful quiet times. (1 Thess. 5:17; Luke 22:46; James 5:16)

Day 29
Pray that your husband will surrender his time and talents to the Lord. Pray that his spiritual gifts will be manifest in his career, at church, and in your home. (Eph. 5:15-16; 1 Cor. 12:4, 7)

Day 30
Pray that your husband will serve God and others with pure motives. Pray that he will obey the Lord from his heart, and glorify Him in everything. (1 Cor. 10:13; John 7:17-18; Col. 3:23-24)

Day 31
Pray that your husband will recognize the lies of the Enemy in his life. Pray that his attitudes and actions will be guided by the truth as he brings his thoughts into captivity to the Word of God. (John 8:44; 2 Cor. 10:4-5)

Today is March 31, if I begin this today I will finish it on the last day of April. Of course, it will not "finish" me praying for my husband. I will come back and update you to the fruit of my prayer and the changes I see. I know the Lord is faithful and that if we pray earnestly, we will reap benefits.

I also found this cute little etsy site with "How to Pray" cards. What a neat idea!!! http://www.etsy.com/shop/htpc?ref=seller_info

One of my favorite things...seriously

My friend "Athena" makes these wonderful little cloths she has named "Bird-E Towels". When she first created them, they were called "un-paper towels" and I am stuck on that name. I ordered one order and I was hooked. I went back for more (and will be returning again).

Prior to these, I was a Viva paper towel snob/junkie. I used paper towels for EVERYTHING. Well, not everything, but pretty close. Since I have gotten the Bird-E towels, I have transitioned to not using paper towels, AT ALL. Well, this weekend it finally happened. I let all of my Bird-E towels get dirty and I sent my daughter down to the garage to get me paper towels. I used them, but I HATED them. I didn't realize how spoiled I was.

My reasoning in going to the Bird-E towels initially was not to be more "green", it was to cut down on my paper towel costs. I used to go through a roll a day. Seriously, a complete roll. I used Viva, do you KNOW how much they cost?

Anyhow, I love my Bird-E towels and I think anyone would. I use them as I would papertowels, washrags, dishcloths, and more things than I can list. Just this morning while tidying up I used them like I commonly do, to soak things and highlight them so I can come back later. What do I mean? Like, on the couch cushion there was spilled yogurt (I have been meaning to clean it for some time, but kept forgetting). On the kitchen floor was a floor "glop" from last night that had hardened to glue-like status. On the stove another glue-like food glop. I took three Bird-E towels, wet them, and placed one wadded up wet towel on each spot and left it. When I came back, the spots were ready to be cleaned and I just used the towel to scrub it up.

I used to keep a lingerie bag hanging in my laundry area, and as I used each one, I put it in that bad, now I have a basket on top of my dryer that I place them in as I use them. I also just ordered me a beautiful basket (seen here from Tastefully Simple) to put them in on my counter. Currently, they are in a plastic bin. I know "Athena" uses a circular toilet paper holder to put hers in on her kitchen counter, and it looks really nice. I am currently coveting her red Bird-E towels. I think I shall order them and move my bleached ones to the bathrooms and other jobs.

This review was not requested nor have I been reimbursed for doing it. Actually, "Athena" does not even know about it (yet, though I will link her to it). I just honestly think that the Bird-E towels are an amazing product worth sharing with others.

In case you didn't see the links above, I am giving you this link to her store, "Athena Creates". She has other great items too. http://www.etsy.com/shop/AthenaCreates?ref=pr_shop_more

Cleanliness is next to Godliness, part two...

When we reflect upon cleanliness, we will never achieve a true clean until we deal with the other type of cleanliness, a cleanless that penetrates completely to our soul. The Bible is very clear and talks about this subject repeatedly. I have little "pictures" here with three of the verses, but here they are listed out for you:

Isaiah 1:16
Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil
Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Psalm 51:7
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Matthew 5:8
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Ezekiel 36:25
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
Leviticus 19:28
You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord.
If you really read and reflect upon these verses, it is pretty convicting. At least I know for myself it is. I do believe that there is more he has given us to reflect on, and these next two verses encompass the full jest it:
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

To keep you spirit pure you need to acknowledge your sin, ask forgiveness for those sins, and make a concerted effort to forsake those sins. In everything we can use Philippians 4:8 as our guide:
Is it true?
Is it honorable?
Is it just?
Is it pure?
Is it lovely?
Is it commendable?
Is it of excellence?
Is it worthy of praise?
If our answer to any of these is "no", then it is probably dirt for our spirit.
When out spirit is dirty, it doesn't matter what the outside. Think of it this way...you can have an immaculately clean vehicle of the finest quality. However, if the engine is full of dirt and debris, it is going to break down and it's worth greatly reduced.
Don't let your engine get bogged down...

My menu, revised and with this weeks selections

A couple of days I posted asking for suggestions on how to stage my weekly menu to make it easier for me, and more predictable for my family. This is how I have staged it, thank you all for your suggestions.

Monday: Oreintal/Finger foods
Tuesday: Mexican
Wednesday: Soup/Salad/Sandwich
Thursday: Italian
Friday: Breakfast
Saturday: American
Sunday: Comfort

Used to when I had a "theme" night, I had a casserole night. However, I have found that I cook way too many ethnic casseroles to just have one night. So, I will cook a casserole whenever it fits into our nightly theme.

I am so happy to get back to this system. It makes menu planning easier for me. Plus, I think it makes it fun for the kids.

This week, I am skipping theme for tonight because I already had dinner going. Otherwise, here we go:

Monday: Pinto Beans/Butter beans & cornbread
Tuesday: Chili Rellenos
Wednesday: Chicken Salad Sandwiches & chips
Thursday: Chicken Spaghetti
Friday: French Toast
Saturday: Hamburgers
Sunday: Smoked chicken, rice, broccoli & cheese

Cleanliness is next to Godliness, part one...

That is what the say anyhow. I have spent my entire life trying to prove that saying an evil myth. Seriously. I say that but I *love* to have a clean home. I just haven't enjoyed the work that it takes to get it & keep it that way. Let's face it, when you have a family, the work is never done.

On top of the normal amount of work, I am sure as mothers we can all commiserate on the tendency of our children to not only leave their messes for us, but to ignore the need for help in other areas in the home. I have heard tale that some women have husbands who actually pick up after themselves and never leave extra work for their wives. I am not married to such a man. I joke that he is my biggest child. On some levels that is true, he is very childlike in his affinity to want toys and to play, but he also tends to leave a mess in his wake and I end up taking care of the mess he left.

I blame a BIG part of this on myself. One could say it is because I did not train my children, but that is not true. I did train my children to understand that even if they left the mess, it would eventually get picked up by me. Well, it was time for re-training. When we moved a month ago, that is exactly what I began to do. If I have to pick up a mess the kids made, they will pay for it. If it is a toy, it will be gone. If it is something of high value, I keep it for a while. If it is just a "mess", they will do an extra chore because I had to take care of it. They are doing so well. Mostly I don't have to tell them to clean anything up, and when I do have to remind them, it has been getting done immediately.

I have also made an effort to work harder at BLESSING my family by keeping the major part of the housework done. My husband works 80-100 hours a week to provide well enough for our family that I can stay home. In exchange, I don't mind cleaning up after him. I have made certain to keep my attitude in check about housework. After a month of reminding myself to smile while I work, and being mindful that my attention to housework is in fact a blessing to my family, I have found that my attitude towards housework has changed. Now, I will not go so far as to say I enjoy it, or want to do more. When it is all done I am just as happy as anyone else to do something different, something for myself. I will say that I enjoy blessing my family though.

I do get the saying "Cleanliness is next to Godliness", because if it weren't true clean wouldn't feel so good! There is not guilt and no regret in keeping your environment clean and tidy. Only regret in allowing the work to pull you down.

Stay tuned for part two, where I will talk on another type of "cleanliness".

My Fried Chicken Recipe

Get you a chicken. I prefer to buy one already cut up for frying, but if you want to cut your own up, be my guest.

Soak your chicken overnight in a salt-pepper-garlic brine (you can do this for only a few hours if you are pressed for time, or skip it all together).

Rub your chicken with a seasoning blend, I use salt/pepper/garlic.

Mix in a gallon baggie all purpose flour and whatever seasonings you like (guess what I use? S/P/G once again).

In a bowl, combine 6 eggs and about half as much buttermilk as eggs in your bowl. Yeah, ya gotta eyeball this one.

In a dutch oven (this is necessary, make sure you have a dutch oven. If you use something else, it will NOT turn out the same.) heat about 1-2 inches oil. Peanut oil is preferred, but shortening will work and I guess you could use vegetable oil, but I wouldn't.

Dredge your chicken in flour and place on a wire rack or plate to wait for next step.

After dredging, dip you pieces of chicken (one at a time works best) into the egg/buttermilk mixture, and then dredge in flour again. You should have a good thick coating at this point.

Place chicken into the dutch oven and cook until browned on each side (turn it half way through, after one side is browned), about 12-15 minutes. I cover my oven while each batch is cooking. It should be about 145 degrees internally after you take it from the oil, but it will continue to cook as it sets outside of the oil and will reach about 160.

That is it. You should have PERFECTLY fried chicken now.

I will take pictures as I do it and come back and post them in this later. :)

Sunday in the South

Sunday in the South...just saying it brings a smile to my face. It's the only thing us Southern Folk love better than some Friday Night Football!

Some of what "Sunday in the South" means to me:

  • Time with the Lord (every day of course, but Sunday has a reverence to it)
  • A day of rest (lazy day)
  • Time with family and friends
  • Memories being made
  • Spending time outdoors
  • BIG traditional southern meal (Sunday Supper)
  • Tradition, getting in touch with my roots
  • A time where we can be who we are and let the world go by

If I don't have a traditional Sunday, I don't get "set right" until I have one. Today is my first traditional Sunday in quite some time. No, I didn't go to church, but we definitely had our time with the Lord today (home church is such a blessing sometimes). We ate a hearty breakfast and just talked. We made plans and laughed. My Cowboy had to go to work, but he got time with us first and will be home before supper. I am making a big traditional dinner tonight, which is Fried Chicken, mashed taters (with cream gravy), corn, homemade bread, and pineapple upside down cake. We can't eat like that every day, but on Sunday it's our day to enjoy some indulgence. For me growing up, during the time I was with my grandparents, we ALWAYS had Sunday supper. There was just something about it that made everything in the world right again. It was a constant that we could all look forward too. As I grew up and moved to East Texas, I was truly shown what it meant to have a traditional Sunday in the South. I was always invited to someone's house for Sunday Supper. It was always a grand affair, and you were always made to feel like family.

By the way, in case you didn't know, in the south (traditionally) there is *NO* lunch. It is breakfast, dinner, and supper. Why do you think churches have "dinner on the grounds" after church instead of "lunch on the grounds"? It is because "dinner" is the traditional name for the noon-time meal.

To everyone, I wish you a blessed Southern Sunday, no matter where you live. May it set your week off right and bring your spirit a renewal.

I'll leave you with a couple of my favorite "Southern Sunday" songs...

Sleep, what is that?

Seriously. Since our wreck last week, I have not slept one full night. Oh, I usually fall asleep just fine, but within a couple of hours I am WIDE AWAKE. Take tonight for example...I went to bed at 12:30, and was just dozing off when Chris and Michaela got home from a BBQ they had gone to. There I was, awake. Here I am, at 3am, still wide awake. I know there are herbs that can help me, and I am certain there are some DoTerra oils that will also help me much. However, I have to remember to take them/use them. My chiropractor tells me that I must get proper sleep in order to heal from my injuries. I have several torn muscles and joints that are out of whack or locked up. I hurt all over, but I just keep on trucking like always. Why is it that when my body needs rest the most, it goes into revolt? Like it is punishing me for damaging it? It was the same when I had my hysterectomy in October. It seemed like FOREVER before I got back into a normal sleep pattern.

Want to know what the worst thing about this "wakefulness" is? It is the hunger! I ate at 6pm, so naturally my body thinks it is hungry being up at this time. I mean, if you're going to be awake, you need fuel, correct? I hear the corn pops calling my name from the pantry, but I am resisting (for now).

I also feel like this lack of sleep is putting me into a PMS like state. I copied all of my "symptoms" that have increased since the wreck, that also correspond to typical PMS/PMDD symptoms.

  • mood swings
  • irritability
  • anxiety
  • angry outbursts
  • confusion or fuzzy thinking
  • tearfulness
  • fatigue
  • insomnia
  • changes in libido
  • overeating
  • cravings, especially for salty or sweet foods
  • bloating
  • edema (visible swelling, particularly in the hands, feet and legs)
  • difficulty with coordination, being more prone to accidents
  • dizziness, decreased balance
What does all this mean? It means I am more sensitive, I get upset quicker, I am less tolerant, and many other things. Mostly it means everyone ought to do what they are supposed to do, when they are supposed to, without any hesitation.

We all know what they say: When Momma ain't happy, ain't NO body happy.

That being said, I am aware of my feelings and how I am on edge and make a willful effort to be more patient and tolerant and to watch my countenance with my family. However, I wish I could make myself FEEL it. I can fake it 'til I make it (I pray), but boy I feel my reserves running low.

Supper Menu Planning

How do you do it? I love cooking. Seriously I do. I love to bake. I love that my family appreciates a home-made meal, even if it is just some casserole I threw together. I collect cookbooks, but the problem is I *rarely* use them. In may I have a challenge I will post to get others using cookbooks along with me. Well, that or recipes they find online or elsewhere. Anyhow, I am looking for a new way to fashion my weekly menu. So far, it looks like this:

Sunday: Comfort Food
Monday: Soup/Sandwich/Salad
Tuesday: Italian
Wednesday: Breakfast for Supper
Thursday: Mexican
Friday: ???
Saturday: ???

Now, we do not do meatless. I have tried. It just doesn't fly around here. Also, we don't do seafood/fish. Maybe I should add an oriental night? We all like that. I like "southern" food too, but isn't that the same as comfort food? LOL

I'll come back and update, but I'd really like to hear from y'all. Inspire me. Come on.

Writing a novel

I have always enjoyed writing. In high school (yes, that long ago) I attempted to write a novel. I think it got up to over 200 pages, but never was finished or submitted for publishing. I don't even know what happened to all of those pages I typed out on the word processor.

After that attempt, I guess life took over and I became more a connoisseur of novels than a writer of them. Actually, I have lost my ability to twist language where it would draw others in, like I used to be able to do. I am going to work at getting it back. Who knows, one day I may again attempt a novel. Right now, this blog is as close as it will get.

Did you ever have dreams of being a writer? If not a writer, what were you dreams of? Did you give them up or just postpone them? Were you one of the ones who pursued and achieved your dreams? Or were you like me, and your dreams changed?

I did not give up on my dream of being a writer, it just became less important to me. With the demands of being a wife, a mother, a teacher, a college student, a health care provider, etc., it just fell by the way side. I wouldn't exactly even call it a dream anymore. I would more say I would love it as a hobby, and if it ever turned into anything more, then great.

Sneak Peek

I have something to share with you...but I think I shall build some suspense first.

Here is your first clue...

So, are you wondering? Well, I think it will bring a smile to your face like it does us. Watch for more to come...

You make me smile...

There is a "country" song out there that is entitled "Smile". Uncle Kracker sings it, and while I would truly hesitate to classify it as anything outside of bubble gum country-pop, it has a sweet message. The tune absolutely drives me batty and I dislike it as a song, but as poetry it is so nice:

You´re better then the best
I´m lucky just to linger in your light
Cooler then the flip side of my pillow that´s right
Completely unaware
Nothing can compare to where you send me
Lets me know that it´s ok
Yeah it´s ok
And the moments when my good times start to fade

You make me smile like the sun
Fall outta bed
Sing like a bird
Dizzy in my head
Spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night

You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold
Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile

Even when you´re gone
Somehow you come along
Just like a flower poking through the sidewalk crack and just like that
You steal away the rain and just like that

You make me smile like the sun
Fall outta bed
Sing like a bird
Dizzy in my head
Spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night

You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold
buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile

Don´t know how I lived without you
'Cuz every time that I get around you
I see the best of me inside your eyes
You make me smile
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold
Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild

You make me smile like the sun
Fall outta bed
Sing like bird
Dizzy in my head
Spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night

You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold
Buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile
Oh, you make me smile
Oh, you make me smile

Anyhow, I believe this is how I feel about my kiddos. I think abotu how God is our creator, and our father, and how he must feel this way about us, and I *SMILE* again.

Feminimity

Many of you know that I have a heartfelt conviction about wearing skirts. However, my dear hubby is not really a fan of skirts. I have more conviction about honoring his wishes, so I do not wear them full time. Every now and then, something happens to open my eyes about the subject. It has been said that people respond differently to you when you are in a skirt than when you are not. I had proof of this yesterday.

We were in a car accident last Friday. As a result, we are going to a chiropractor now. The first visit was Tuesday. I wore shorts and a t-shirt. Yesterday, I wore a skirt. Now, this was not an experiment I planned, but boy was it a lesson in opening my eyes to what I had been told. First off, when it was my turn to be adjusted, the doc offered me a blanket because I was wearing a skirt. My skirt was quite long, and I did not need one to maintain my modesty. Then, when the tech was placing me on heat I noticed she took more care to keep me covered than she had the previous day. Even the way they interacted with me was more reserved. So yes, people really do react differently when you are wearing a skirt than when you are not.

I think I shall make more of an effort to be more feminine. This is a challenge for me, because I am quite comfortable being a "tom boy". I know though that God created me to be so much more, and I will work to be what he created me to be.

How do you handle anger?

Do you yell?
Do you stew?
Do you whisper?
Do you clean?
Do you tell others?
Do you take it out on those you love?

or

Do you let it go?

Anger is such a natural response for us humans. Sometimes anger is very justified. Sometimes, there is not reason. It is difficult to control though. Today I am struggling with anger. Someone hurt an animal that used to be ours. They asked to take him, for a classroom pet (the Mom is a teacher) and we specifically told them if they ever wanted to give him back or needed him cared for while they went out of town to call us. They didn't. They went out of town for a week leaving him without food and water, and then their daughter thought so lightly of it she told our daughter. I am FURIOUS. I know, we are not to let the sun set on our anger (Ephesians 4:26 says "Be Ye angry and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath."). I have tried to keep the sun from setting, but alas, it is still doing it. I guess what this means is that it is up to *me* to get rid of the anger.

While thinking on it, and trying to find ways to let it go, I thought of the ways we handle anger. Why is it easier to be angry at our loved ones? Why is it that we tend to be more forgiving to perfect strangers than to those we tend to love the most? I know I know, "why" is the most unproductive word known in our language. I still wonder why, though it gets me no where.

I do different things depending on what kind of anger I have. Usually I take my anger out on whomever made me angry. My hubby, he tends to take his anger out on those he is close to (he is trying hard to change this). My daughter, she is a stewer. She holds it in and shuts down. My Mom, she cleans (why couldn't I have inherited that?) I think we all handle anger in a multitude of ways. I do love me some retail therapy, but that usually results in some anger of the husbandly sort. Have to limit my retail therapy sessions. :)

The Bible tells us of anger many times (here is just a few):

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-it leads only to evil (Psalm 37:8).

A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult (Proverbs 12:16).

Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing (Proverbs 12:18).

A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless (Proverbs 14:16

A quick-tempered man does foolish things, and a crafty man is hated (Proverbs 14:17).

A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man displays folly (Proverbs 14:29).

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger (Proverbs 15:1).

A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel (Proverbs 15:18).

Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city (Proverbs 16:32).

A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered (Proverbs 17:27).

It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel (Proverbs 20:3).

Do not say, "I'll pay you back for this wrong!" Wait for the LORD, and he will deliver you (Proverbs 20:22).

Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control (Proverbs 25:28).

Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger (Proverbs 29:8).

A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control (Proverbs 29:11).

An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins (Proverbs 29:22).

Old Time cravings coming on...

When I was a teenager, I got a job at a restaurant in West Virginia. I have long ago forgotten the name of the place. This place was famous for their biscuits. On my first day of training, I was grossed out when someone ordered a "Special". What was on this special that grossed me out? Nacho cheese, mayonnaise, bacon, lettuce and tomatoes. ON A BISCUIT! YUCK! As the morning rolled on, many others ordered the same thing. Now, I am not a fool (though by the way I behaved as a teenager one might argue that point) and I knew that if so many people were ordering it, there *must* be something to it. So, on my lunch break I decided to partake of the "special". From there on out there was no turning back! That was amazingly delicious. I was addicted. For several years, even after moving away, it was my staple breakfast. For a while, I even ordered them at Burger King, because they let me have things "my way". However, they just didn't taste right so eventually I gave up. I still made them at home now and then, but at some point they got lost and I never even thought of them.

This morning, I woke up CRAVING them. What is a girl to do but make herself one when her body is demanding it, right? So off to the kitchen I went. I made the decision to use canned biscuits instead of regular ones. I also chose not to open a can of nacho cheese and opted for American. Although my BLT on a biscuit satisfied the craving (to an extent), it was not right. It needed to be on an old fashioned cat head biscuit with nacho cheese.

So, although it may sound nasty, I will leave you with the words of Dr. Seuss:

"Try them, try them, and you may! Try them and you may, I say."

Next Year's Curriculum...

I am searching for curriculum for next year for the kids. Definitely for Michaela we are doing Tapestry of Grace and Teaching Textbooks. For grammar we are thinking Language Lessons. Here is the problem...for science, I am at a loss. Suggestions anyone? We are trying to do less textbook and more hands on.

Music & the brain

The other day we were driving and my daughter was just floored because she realized that there were very few songs that came on that I didn't know the words too. Yes, I am a regular Celine Dion of the car variety...I could peel paint off walls with this less than magnificent voice, but I LOVE to sing, so I do. Anyhow, Michaela says "Well Mom, I learned that the human brain can only remember the lyrics to 250 songs. But Mom, you know something like a million songs". I laughed. My recall for lyrics is stellar, even if the melodic tone of my singing is NOT.

I have been looking for a source online to list what the recall for songs is for the average person, but alas, it appears that the human brain is a funny thing. It's memory potential is indefinite. Just when I thought I finally found my super human power. Oh well. I shall keep searching. :)

The best photograph I have ever taken...

I would love to be a great photographer. Not the kind that people pay to take their pictures, the kind that does it for fun and not for profit. The kind that people would love to hire, but that is not for hire. I just want to be good so that *I* enjoy my photos more. So that I can leave a legacy in print for my family not only in written word, but in imagery too.

My most favorite photograph I have ever taken was taken at the beach this past summer. It is of my precious adopted gift, little Troy. He has the sweetest freckles.

Are you ready to see the picture? Well then, let's get to it...

After looking though, I cannot decide if this one is my favorite, or if another one is. So I will post it too.

You can decide if you think one is better than the other. I am taking a class on the 9th of April to learn to use my camera better. I am so excited. I am sure I will be sharing my "fruits" with you at a later time and date. :)

Our move is Complete!

Yes, you heard me, OUR MOVE IS COMPLETE! (So I should be back on top of blogging again.)

We were in a wreck yesterday. A lady driving a flat bed tow truck ran a red light, going over 70mph and slammed into our front end as we were going through the intersection. We are very blessed as I was the only one that was injured, and my injuries are minor. I have a fractured bone in my hand and a concussion, along with some bruising. That is it.

The kids were with me but are fine. Everyone was sitting on the passenger side or in the middle. I was the only one on the side of impact.

I am praising God for his hand in keeping us safe. I am well aware of how bad this wreck COULD have been.

On another note, I fell off of the taking a picture every day wagon. I will start this again. Thanks for reading, talk to you more soon.
